Protest and march ongoing in San Francisco, California for Palestine.

Riot police fired tear gas and fought running battles with pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Paris this afternoon after France recently banned pro-Palestinian protests.

About 6,000 mostly peaceful protesters assembled in the Barbès area of northern Paris in defiance of a government ban. When the march was blocked by police lines after only 500 metres, a minority of young protesters started to hurl stones, bottles and sticks at the riot police.

The police responded with tear gas shells, which sent clouds of acrid fumes swirling among the protesters, shoppers and passers-by. The demonstration – banned by the government after a similar pro-Palestinian protest last week turned violent – scattered into the maze of streets just north of the Gare du Nord.

Groups of demonstrators squatted on road junctions, defying the police to remove them. Young protesters with scarves over their faces raided skips for stones and tore up lumps of tarmac to hurl at the police lines.

Thousands Gather In London For Protest Against Israeli Military Action

Sarah Colborne, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said London has “already shown its outrage at Israel’s attacks on the mostly refugee population of Gaza, with people turning out in their thousands last week.

“Today’s national demonstration will give people from across the country the chance to say enough is enough, Israel’s siege of Gaza and its occupation of Palestinian land has to end now.

“People want justice and freedom for the Palestinians, and they will be voicing this in their thousands.”

“I am here to show solidarity with the people in Gaza,” she said.

“We call for an end to the occupation and justice for Palestinians.”

Pro Palestine supporters carried placards with the messages “Gaza, stop the massacre” and “stop Israel’s war crimes”.

SEVERAL THOUSAND PEOPLE have taken part in a protest in Dublin city centre against the ongoing situation in Palestine.

Protesters lay down in front of Leinster House as a ‘die-in’ to show solidarity with the people in Gaza and to symbolise the number of deaths in the region.

A total of 337 Palestinians and three Israelis have been killed in the past twelve days in the bloodiest conflict in the area for several years.

The protest, organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, is believed to be one of the biggest pro-Palestinian marches in several years.

“What’s happening is appalling,” said Freda Hughes, one of the organisers  ”We’re looking at over 300 people dead, about 70 of whom are children,  and the targeting of a captive civilian population”.
